Wilmington Select Board Elects New Chair, Launches Senior Center Lease Search

WILMINGTON — May 12, 2026 — Wilmington Select Board unanimously elected Kevin Kyra as its new chair and released a formal request for information on leasing the Bissell Senior Center to a private renovator. Kyra was nominated by Selectman Jacob Dewar at the May 12 reorganization meeting, the first after annual town meeting. Town Manager Eric Hurtubise said proposals are due May 22, with a pre-submission site walk set for May 15, and that the RFI places all renovation costs on any prospective tenant — leaving a $615,000 special town meeting appropriation sitting in a warrant for now. Resident Rob Fasulo, one of three petitioners behind that appropriation, argued the funds were meant "for what it was designed for" — a level playing field for nonprofits like the Historical Commission that cannot self-finance a full gut renovation. Fasulo also called on the new chair to pursue a temporary zoning ban on data centers, noting that neighboring Lowell has already imposed a moratorium and that Wilmington's industrial zones currently permit the facilities.
